At Wilmor Downs Equine Breeding Services getting your mare in foal is our passion. We offer a full range of reproductive services including standing outside stallions during the breeding season. This information brochure is designed to give the mare owner an idea on costings involved with getting their mare in foal. There are several options for the mare owner depending on their choice of stallion:
SENDING CHILLED, SHIPPED SEMEN
This suits mare owners at other locations who wish to have their mare bred to a stallion standing at Wilmor Downs Equine Breeding Services we can supply chilled, shipped semen to most locations in Australia. This enables the mare to be inseminated at home without traveling to the stallion. Estimates of collection and shipping costs are:
- •Collection and processing of chilled semen – $300.00
- •Toll Courier costs to the destination – vary between $150 and $250 depending on the exact location.
- •Qantas Air Freight or Toll Air costs to the destination – vary between $200 and $350 depending on the exact location.
- •Semen drop off to Emerald Airport or Toll depot – $120
- •Cost of shipping container – $30. NB: THIS COST WILL BE CHARGED IF THE SHIPPING CONTAINER IS NOT RETURNED WITHIN 7 DAYS!
MARES LOCATED AT WILMOR DOWNS FOR ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION
Wilmor Downs Equine Breeding Services offers artificial insemination with fresh, chilled and frozen semen. Several stallions which stand at Wilmor Downs are available for artificial insemination. Many owners of performance stallions prefer artificial insemination over natural service as there is no risk of injury to their stallion. These stallions are collected, the semen processed and mare inseminated, all on site. Costs involved with artificial insemination are as follows:
- •Artificial insemination with outside, chilled semen – $500.00 per cycle. Per cycle fees include all scans (follicle tests and post breed check for ovulation), insemination and 14 day pregnancy test. The price does not cover drugs or agistment or collection of semen from Toll or Qantas Freight. Also the costs of having the stallion collected and shipped must be taken into consideration. You will need to discuss these costs with the stallion owner and/or their veterinarian.
- •Off Farm Semen Pickup from Emerald Airport or Toll depot – $120
- •Artificial insemination with frozen semen – $780.00 per cycle. Again this price does not cover drugs or agistment. There are also some costs associated with shipping the frozen semen to Wilmor Downs. A frozen semen handling fee of $55.00 is charged when the semen arrives and is unpacked. Also semen storage charges apply if the semen is stored for more than 1 month without use. Shipping costs would need to be discussed with the stallion owner or their agent who is sending the semen.
- •Stallion collection and artificial insemination – $600.00 per cycle. This price is a package deal for stallions and mares on site (individual costings are $300.00 for semen collection and $500.00 for AI). Drugs and agistment and are extra.
- •Live Cover Stallion Handling Fee – $275 per cycle will be charged. Agistment, drugs and scans are extra. A pre breeding scan is required before live cover. Mares must be dewormed and up to date with tetanus / strangles vaccinations before arriving at Wilmor Downs.
- •Embryo Transfer – Mare insemination as above
- – Flush fee – $600
- – Transfer fee – $400
- •Recipient mare hire (approx. 18 months) – $2200 – Agistment and all incidental costs incurred for the recipient mare are the responsibility of the client once the recipient mare has positive 45 day pregnancy scan. Agistment will be $40 per day after 45 day positive scan.
- •Bring own recipient mare – prep fee – $880 plus agistment
- •Recipients are required to be paid for in full on pickup. Recipients are to be returned after weaning. Fee for non-return $800. Recipients are to be returned in acceptable condition, they are photographed on departure and return, and a $800 fee may apply if they are returned in unacceptable condition.
- •Stallion freezing – Collection and freezing $660
- – Freezing media – $10/ml ($40/dose) 1 dose = 8 straws
- •AGISTMENT – Includes lucerne hay and hard feed twice daily. Daily agistment costs are as follows:
- – Private paddock dry mare – $40.00
- – Group paddock dry mares – $20.00
- – Group paddock wet mare – $30.00
- – Semi-private wet mare – $40.00
- – Private wet mare- $45.00
- – Stallion – $45.00
- •Farrier
- – Full Trim – $70
- – Half Trim – $50
- – Half Shoes – $100
